Trademark Registration in Bangladesh – A Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Step-by-Step Trademark Registration Process in Bangladesh
Step 1️⃣: 
Trademark Search (Optional)
Before applying, you can check for similar or existing trademarks.
- Form: TM-4
- Fee: BDT 2,000
- Time: Around 2 weeks
DPDT NICE Classification
Step 2️⃣: 
File Trademark Application
- Form: TM-1
- Fee: BDT 5,000
- Submission: Online / DPDT Office (Dhaka or Chattogram)
Application Must Include:
- Name/logo/design of mark
- Applicant details (individual/company)
- Nationality, address, and legal status
- Goods/services classification (as per NICE)
- Usage date or “Proposed to be used”
- Label/design in proper format
- Power of Attorney (TM-10), if submitted by agent
Step 3️⃣: 
Examination by DPDT
- DPDT examines the application for similarity or objections
- Result:
- Accepted (TMR5 issued)
Show Cause Letter (objection raised)
Rejected
If objected:
- Submit Counter Statement via Form TM-6
- May request a hearing (Form TM-7)
- Must respond within 3 months
Step 4️⃣: 
Journal Publication (BG Press)
- Form: TM-9
- Fee: BDT 3,000
- Applicant pays for Journal Notification after acceptance
- Oppositions allowed within 2 months of publication
Step 5️⃣: 
Opposition (If any)
- Anyone can file an opposition (Form TM-23) within 2 months
- Applicant must submit Counter Statement (Form TM-6)
- Both parties submit evidence in affidavit (TM-18)
- Registrar gives final decision, which can be appealed to High Court
Step 6️⃣: 
Trademark Registration
If no opposition is filed (or resolved in your favor):
- Form: TM-11
- Fee: BDT 20,000
- DPDT issues Trademark Registration Certificate sealed by the Registry
Step 7️⃣: 
Renewal of Trademark
Validity: 7 years initially
Renewable: Every 10 years
